For God So Loved… Moms & Tots

My dear readers, love must first be rooted in our homes as we embrace our spouses, our children, and our families; it then sprouts into our communities through our neighborhoods, schools, and churches. Valentine’s isn’t about a box of chocolates and a dozen red roses, but it’s in the how we express our love every day of every week of every month of every year. We are way too focused on the big picture and in how others choose to react, but we forsake where the real influence of love should initiate.
Remember?
It starts with me.

To The Women Who Marched, Thank You

To be frank, I am at a crossroads.

You probably weren’t expecting to hear this from a conservative Christian and registered Republican, but I sincerely thank you for marching. I thank you for peacefully marching for something you are passionate about.

I thank you for not getting violent and demonstrating to protesters across the nation that it can get done without getting arrested.

I can stand behind some of the issues and I thank you for your courage.

Now to those “on the other side,” please hear my heart before clicking & clacking on your keyboards to inform me how misguided I am…

Dr. K’s Best Medicine: Take Your Own Advice & Make Lemonade

NBC’s This is Us has been renewed for two more seasons! (Yippee!). But there’s a reason why this show has captivated the hearts of many, including my own. Here’s my take on the latest episode “The Big Day,” although I really missed the grown up Big Three, this prequel to the pilot episode gave us a window to peek into the depth of Dr. K’s grief over the death of his beloved while further explaining to us his “when life gives you the sourest lemon” philosophy.
**Spoiler Alert** Don’t read if you haven’t watched the episode and don’t want to know what happens!**

This Advent: The Waiting Room & Aleppo

The waiting room is inevitable as we all painfully await for our names to be uttered; for the promise in our lives to be fulfilled. Oftentimes, we ask ourselves if we’ve been forgotten or if we’ve been mistakenly skipped and someone has received the blessing before us. Perhaps we believe we will never attain it and we become discouraged and give up too soon prior to ever finding the answers we were searching. Some have been blessed despite their lack of devotion to the God we serve, but are we even worthy of this gift we’ve received through His sacrifice and His love for humanity? Shouldn’t that be enough to heal us? Our desire for justice still invade our souls, the “why me?” syndrome seem to have infected our hearts as we wait.

When We Don’t Feel Like Giving Thanks

I feel like this year’s Thanksgiving Scrooge.

My husband lately has been bugging me to write. But I haven’t felt like it. I feel internally yucky. I feel like I shouldn’t share my internal yuckiness because I don’t want to be contagious or give anyone a reason to complain about their miserable lives. So I opted to abstain from writing… and letting you in on my misery.

Then the Lord reminds me of this verse in 1 Timothy because I’m pretty sure when Paul penned this to Timothy, his circumstances alone didn’t give him a reason to rejoice. But he did anyways. Despite the persecutions, the incarcerations, and the beatings, Paul somehow trusted God and all His promises.

As we prepare a marvelous Thanksgiving feast, my prayer for everyone is that we don’t miss these ingredients that will make our times memorable for a lifetime.

Looking For America: Our Purple Nation

You want love, love first. You want to be heard, listen up! You want to be respected, show respect. You want to win the war, learn to lose battles. You want freedom, fight fair. You want the right example for the next generation, it starts with you at home and in serving selflessly in our communities. You want empathy and compassion, be empathetic and compassionate towards your enemies. You want grace for yourself, be ready to give it.

You want forgiveness, forgive those who trespass you even when they are not apologetic for what they have done.

LEAD BY EXAMPLE in everything you do. Work harder than anyone without always expecting anything in return.

Our reward isn’t here, but in His Kingdom.

Elections 2016: Christians, Do They Know Us By Our Love?

No matter what happens in November 8th, remember who is the One we truly serve. We served Him then, we serve Him now, and we will serve Him beyond November 9th. Perhaps, we will lose some rights or gain others, but let us be aware of the greater picture and the impact we could have if we choose to love despite our losses.
