While waiting endlessly in the airport, we started planning our meals. Kenny really wanted to try one of the popular BLT restaurants, except BLT Steak because he’s been there before. We discussed many other suggestions, but our transportation was taking so long that we thought we’d be lucky if we made it to dinner. Previously, we had discussed going to Gramercy Tavern for lunch and Del Posto for dinner.
However, we made it too late and we couldn’t have waited any longer (to the point that we considered stopping the driver so we could get something, anything from a hot dog stand).
Luckily, we saw a BLT restaurant right across the street from where we are staying so we decided to give it a shot. The customer service was ok, both the hostess and the server were friendly but at times too distracted. To be considerate, the restaurant is across the 9/11 memorial site and it started raining. Now we know what happens when a lot of people are outside and it rains… They find shelter. They did at BLT. Being a server, I personally know the feeling of being triple sat at once plus having other tables. Our food came rather quickly, but our dessert took about 15 minutes. But then again, I know from experience that timing of the food isn’t always on the servers.

The menu was fairly priced for being in the financial district. We ordered their seasonal pizza and we were both impressed by the creativity of the chef. A pizza that consists of peaches, smoked Gouda, jalapeños, and speck wasn’t too appealing at first, but the peaches really caught our eyes. It was also our favorite dish there.
We also had their Grilled Chicken Sandwich with soppressata, mozzarella, olive tapenade, arugula and fries. After scanning the menu, we both really wanted to try this. The presentation was outstanding, but the grilled chicken was more like roasted sliced chicken, and the bottom bread was really soggy. We loved the presentation of the fries in an aluminum cup and we loved the ingredients, unfortunately, they weren’t put well together.
Finally, we ordered the tropical sundae… I guess we miss Florida a bit! The sundae had mojito sherbet, guava sherbet, piña colada ice cream, coconut macaroon, fresh pineapple. We loved it! Definitely worth the wait! Especially those yummy macaroons! It wouldn’t surprise me if they made all components in-house.

The restaurant itself was a bit crammed. We were sitting right by the bar and my chair was touching the chair behind me. The decor was very modern and inviting, we definitely felt like we were in New York!
Decor/Ambiance: 3/5
Tonight we will be sticking to our plans and we will try out Del Posto. I’m Italian and I love Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich. I’ll be definitely be looking forward to this one.
